Mark has been a professional musician for more than 30 years performing on clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and piano in all genres including musical theatre; symphony orchestra and chamber music; big bands; service bands; jazz and rock; and as a solo pianist. He is also in demand a s session musician, and is currently principal clarinet with the NSW Ambulance Service Concert BAnd. He is also an accomplished conductor and musical director–having conducted numerous school bands and ensembles; symphony orchestras; opera; commercial shows and music theatre; as well as being the full-time Director of Music of the NSW Department of Corrective Services Band. Mark is also an arranger/orchestrator concentrating on large-scale forms such as concert bands and orchestral arrangements.
In addition to his career as a performer, Mark is also a teacher and academic. He has taught both classroom and instrumental music in numerous high schools and is currently teaching at The King's School, Parramatta, and Danebank Anglican School, Hurstville. He also holds a PhD in musicology from the University of Sydney, MA (Hons) in Music History from Macquarie University, a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of NSW, and a Licentiate Diploma in Performance from Trinity College of Music London and is currently in the process of writing for a number of academic publications.
